Celler El Masroig, Montsant

Founded in 1917, the Cooperative of El Masroig is one of the largest in the area. Today its members own almost 500 hectares of vineyards located in the new Montsant appellation. Ricard Rofes the head winemaker has been producing a top cuvée since 1997 by rigorously selecting the best grapes from the oldest vines.

Penedès

Nun, Penedès

This tiny 1 hectare estate in Penedès was established in by former sommelier Enric Soler. He set out to make the best Xarel-lo in the world and we think he has done it. No expense is spared in the production - his vines average 60 years old and he ferments in tiny oak barrels. The wine is amazing and the price is reassuringly expensive.

White

Nun Xarello 2004

Oriel Rossell, Penedès

The Can Cassanyes estate is located in the upper Penedès region and dates back to the 16th century. This cava bears the name of Oriol Rossell, the last heir and current owner of Can Cassanyes.

White

Priorat

Mas Doix, Priorat

Although the Doix family have over 100 years experience of growing grapes and making wine in Priorat, the Celler Mas Doix is a very new venture established in 1998. The fact that wine critics are already tumbling over themselves to get this wine (Robert Parker gave the top wine 98 points) is a credit to their hard work in a very short period of time. Their carefully tended vines are on terraced slopes, resembling the Douro Valley in Portugal. They grow old vine (up to 70 years) Garnacha Tinta and the ubiquitous Cariñena.

Red

Salanques 2002

Highly concentrated and extracted with floral aromas, rich black fruit and chalky minerality. On the palate the wine is balanced with ripe tannins and velvety mouthfeel.

Costers de Vinyes Velles 2002

Sumptuous aromas of scorched earth, crème de cassis, graphite, liquorice and a hint of balsamic vinegar. Rich, unctuously-textured, and full-bodied. The finish is refined and complex.

Terra Alta

Bàrbera Forés, Terra Alta

Benefitting from the cooling effect of the Mediterranean and with much needed rainfall attracted by the nearby Serra de Cavalls mountains, the Terra Alta provides a sweet spot for the 19 ha of vineyards owned by Celler Bàrbara Forés. The first Bàrbara Forés was born in 1828 and passed on the art of wine-making to her son Rafael. Generations later the family tradition continues to thrive.
