ALSACE
Domaine Bruno Hunold
Located in the heart of Rouffach, the Hunold Family have been running this 13ha domaine since 1965. Their philosophy is to respect the environment and do most of their work in the vineyard rather than the winery. This translates into great expressions of textbook Alsace varietals.

BEAUJOLAIS
Jean-Claude Lapalu, Beaujolais
This Domaine is a good example of what the new generation of growers can achieved in very little time; Jean Claude started up in 1996 and has thrown out the rule book. Forget light insipid Beaujolais, think richness and concentration. The estate is now entirely organic (a rarity for Bordeaux) and their award wining wines speak for themselves.

Château Sainte-Marie, Entre-Deux-Mers
Entre-Deux-Mers had a reputation for mediocrity until Stéphane Dupuch arrived on the scene. He is determined to elevate the status of this humble appellation. His methods are extreme - close planting (6000 vines per hectare rather than the usual 3000) and yields which are often 30% less than those prescribed by the AOC. His wines show that this Bordeaux backwater has amazing potential for the future.

Thirty eight year old Thierry Beaumont and his wife Sylvie have run this 4 hectare estate since the end of the 80's. They used to sell all their wines to a local négociante but they decided in 1998 that the quality was high enough to bottle and label the wines themselves - they haven't looked back since! Their wines are from the new-school of Burgundian thought - pure, fruit-forward and eminently drinkable even when young.

Alain Gras is the leading grower in hilly Saint-Romain where the weather is cooler and the wines are lighter and leaner than in nearby Auxey-Duresses. The view from his courtyard in Saint-Romain-le-Haut (perched above a 100-foot cliff) is breathtaking. You can sometimes see Mont-Blanc, but if you do it will rain the next day (according to local folklore!). Alain's wines are pure, elegant and full of fruit.
